# GOL-003: Entangled Phase Transform

Alternating local rules meet one-to-one distant coupling, where a partner's recent history can overturn a cell's future.

## What to explore

The game should show a local automaton being interrupted by a reproducible
nonlocal memory signal. Visitors must be able to tell which phase acts, what
history pattern is sought, and when coupling overrides the local result. The
archived beam behavior is the experiential target; exact archival UI behavior is
not.

## Rules, update order and replay

The world is a square binary Moore lattice with a fixed seeded one-to-one
permutation mapping every cell to one distant history source. Two or three
editable B/S phases act in A/B or A/B/C order. Each cell retains its last eight
committed binary states. The active phase first computes a local result from the
frozen board. When the selected three-to-eight-bit pattern occurs in its coupled
partner's available history, the configured response forces alive, forces dead,
or inverts that local result. Histories then commit the new state synchronously.
Toroidal or finite local boundaries do not alter the coupling permutation.
Replay requires occupancy, every history byte, coupling map, generation, rule
configuration, topology, and original seed/density or starter. Reset rebuilds
the board, zero histories, coupling permutation, and generation.

## Reading the simulation

Triggered cells receive distinct visual evidence while telemetry reports phase
and trigger count. The context and rule summary identify the active phase,
history pattern, and response, providing a text equivalent to color. The current
implementation explains coupling at the field level but does not expose a
selected-cell partner/history inspector; the causal buffers remain explicit in
the engine and deterministic tests.

## Reproduce a starting configuration

[Download example JSON](https://100gol.com/api/experiments/003/configuration). Import it using Share & reproduce in the simulation controls. It starts paused at Step zero. Files contain rules and initial conditions, not evolved boards or manual edits. See [format, limitations and automated access](https://100gol.com/agents).
